Welding may be the career for you

MARSHALLTOWN – You keep hearing about the demand for welders…ever considered that might be the career for you or just curious as to what all the talk is about? How about you farmers who want to repair your own equipment? Iowa Valley Continuing Education is offering welding courses that will give you a hands-on opportunity to learn basic welding techniques.
Basic MIG, IND 9100.10 begins March 20 – April 5 from 5:30 – 8:30 pm on Monday & Wednesday. Learn basic GMAW welds in 18 hours. Training for gas, metal arc welding for manufacturing or home improvement. No prior welding experience necessary. Cost is $199.
Basic TIG Welding, IND 1250.4 begins March 20 – April 5 from 5:30 – 8:30 pm on Monday & Wednesday. Learn fundamentals of running TIG (GTAW) processes in 18 hours. Students will learn basic techniques to perform quality welds in all positions on steel. No prior welding experience necessary. Cost is $199.
Career Pipe Welding, IND 1300.8 begins March 28 – June 7 from 6:00 – 9:00 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday. This 11-week welding course offers two welding processes: Alliant Energy and AWS pipe procedure. This class prepares you for a career in pipe welding with SMAW. Must have a basic knowledge of SMAW (stick) welding process or taken Pre-Pipe Welding class. Tuition assistance is available to qualifying and selected students. Cost is $1800. All classes will be held at the Business and Technology Center Welding Lab on the Marshalltown Community College Campus, 3700 S. Center St., Marshalltown. Participants must wear leather shoes, long sleeves and long pants. Price includes materials and lab fee.
