Infection Control and OSHA Regulations for the Dental Practice

MARSHALLTOWN – This course will explain the CDC’s IA, IB, and IC guidelines and recommendations and discuss how dental practices in Iowa can maintain compliance with the law to provide a safe environment for patients and employees. You will also understand the OSHA regulations and how they apply to the dental practice. This course has been approved for 3.0 hours of continuing education through the Iowa Dental Board for the dentist, dental assistant and the dental hygienist, and it does meet the infection control requirement for the dental assistant.
As a participant in the Infection Control and OSHA Regulations for the Dental Practice you will be able to: discuss the ranking of the CDC Guidelines and OSHA Regulations, identify personnel health elements of an Infection Control Program, understand how to prevent the transmission of bloodborne pathogens, discuss hand hygiene in the dental practice, understand the purpose and limitations of personal protective equipment, discuss contact dermatitis and latex hypersensitivity, review sterilization and disinfection of patient care items, review environmental infection control, discuss dental unit waterlines, biofilm, and water quality, discuss special considerations, including oral surgical procedures, single-use (disposable) devices and tuberculosis, and review hazardous chemical safety. You will also understand OSHA regulations and how they apply to your dental practice. The presenter is Dr. Carrie McKnight, DDS who is an Assistant Clinical Professor with the Department of Oral Pathology, Radiology, and Medicine at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry.
Infection Control Guidelines for the Dental Practice in Iowa will take place on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm at Iowa Valley Continuing Education Center in Marshalltown room 808. Check in will begin at 8:30 am. Infection Control Guidelines for the Dental Practice in Iowa is co-sponsored by the Marshall County Dental Study Club and IVCE.
