Nurse Aide Phase 1 or 75 hour starting soon

MARSHALLTOWN – The Nurse Aide Phase 1 or 75-hour Nurse Aide class will be offered in Marshalltown beginning Thursday, Oct. 11 with orientation from 3:30-4:30 pm. This class will educate students in the basic level of knowledge and the demonstration of skills needed to provide safe, effective resident care. This course meets the requirement of the Department of Inspection and Appeals for nursing assistants / direct care givers working in long-term care and skilled facilities. Upon completion, a student is eligible to take the written and skills performance competency tests to become a Certified Nursing Assistant in the State of Iowa.
The Nurse Aide class will meet on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays from 12:30-6:30 pm at Iowa Valley Continuing Education, 3702 S. Center St. Class will be held Oct. 29-Dec. 10. At the first class, students will complete the required paperwork for background checks and must bring their social security card and a black pen with them to class. Students will also need to provide documentation of up to date immunizations, influenza immunization and two step TB test by Nov. 6. Students will also need to purchase their book from the MCC bookstore.
Students will incur costs for the background check $25, class $545, book about $70, uniform, shoes, watch with a second hand, immunizations and TB testing.
Upon completion of the class, lab and clinical the students are eligible to complete the state nurse aide computer competency exam $55 and the skills exam $95. Upon passing both exams students are then placed on the Iowa Nurse Aide Registry and are eligible to be hired as a certified nurse aide in a long term care facility.
