Kids in College registrations now open

Kids in College FlierRegistrations are now being accepted for the Kids in College 2019 programs being offered by Iowa Valley Continuing Education. There will be two summer programs for students who have completed grades 3-8: the first is June 17-21 and the second is July 29-31.

“As in the past, we have two Kids in College programs … June and July,” says Sandy Supianoski, Kids in College organizer. “This year, registrations are being handled completely online, and it’s a first-paid, first-served system. Parents and kids can review the class options on our website, and then parents complete a Class/Topic Preference Form followed by the online registration and payment process. We’re already receiving registrations, so the process appears to be working smoothly!”

The June 17-21 Kids in College meets Monday through Friday. There are two classes offered during that week, one from 8:30 to 10 am and the other from 10:15 to 11:45 am. Kids can attend one or both of those classes; each class is $50. Class topics vary by grade, and they include Anime Art, Art of Nature, Beginning Chess, Bored? Paracord!, Build a Robot, Card Tricks, Fit Factory Boot Camp, FUNdamentals of Watercolor, International Cooking, Intermediate Chess, Let’s Build, Origami Unfolded, Outdoor Boot Camp 101, Reduce/ Reuse/ Recycle, Sculpture/ 3D Art, Webpage Creation, Welding Garden Art, and What it Takes to be a Nurse. A Take the Challenge class is also offered, but it runs for the entire morning, so the cost is $100/child.

The July 29-31 Kids in College meets Monday through Wednesday from 8:30 am to noon, and kids are in just one class for the entire morning. Class topics vary by grade, and they include Anime Art, Beyond Basic Origami, Bored? Paracord!, Build a Robot, Equine Care & Careers (to be held at Wolfe Ranch), Fit Factory Boot Camp, FUNdamentals of Watercolor, Let’s Build, Reduce/ Reuse/ Recycle, and Take the Challenge.

“Kids and parents will need to pay close attention to the grade levels for each of these courses,” says Supianoski. “It’s also important to note that the deadlines for registration and payment are June 3 and July 15 for the two events, respectively.”

The cost of each Kids in College class is $50 per child, which includes program supplies and a snack. If a child attends both classes (8:30-10 am and 10:15-11:45 am) during the June 17-21 camp, the cost is $100. The cost of the July 29-31 Kids in College is $50 per child.
