IVCE offers Microsoft Excel Specialist Certificate courses

MARSHALLTOWN – Professionals in a variety of occupations and industries use Microsoft Excel software on a regular basis to record data, work with numbers, create and edit charts and graphs, and much more. A series of three Microsoft Excel Specialist courses will be offered beginning Monday, Aug. 12, for those who want to take their Excel skills to the next level or earn the Microsoft Excel Specialist Certificate.

Microsoft Excel Specialist Level 1 will be held from Aug. 12-21, followed by the Level 2 class Aug. 26 – Sept. 9 and the Level 3 class Sept. 11-23. Each of the three four-session classes meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the MCC Business & Technology Center, the standalone building at the northeast corner of the Marshalltown Community College campus at 3700 S. Center St., Marshalltown. Instructor for the courses is James Flack.

According to Flack, the Microsoft Excel Specialist Level 1 course will help participants improve data accuracy and consistency through the use of spreadsheets. The course covers creating, editing and formatting spreadsheets with Excel. Additional topics include basic formulas, how to search for and replace data, modifying columns and rows, and becoming efficient with AutoFill and AutoComplete. The Level 2 course covers conditional formatting, working with functions, sorting and filtering data, analyzing data, and creating tables, charts and pivot tables. The Level 3 course topics are the advanced features of Excel: working with multiple worksheets and workbooks, using lookup functions, formula auditing, automating workbook functionality, creating spark lines, and mapping data. Those who complete all three courses will receive an Excel Specialist Certificate at the conclusion of the third class.

Cost of each of the three classes is $125; those who register for the Certification Series of all three classes for $325 will realize a savings of $50. The costs include textbooks as well as lifetime access to a virtual lab.
