Fall Dance class registrations due Oct. 24

The registration deadline is Thursday, Oct. 24, for Faythe Kubik’s upcoming “Gotta Dance” programs offered through Iowa Valley Continuing Education; the dance classes begin Sunday, Oct. 27. The five fall classes (Line Dance, Bachata, Salsa Intermediate, Waltz Intermediate, and Rock Sway Beginning) meet on Sundays, Oct. 27 through Nov. 24.

“As my past and current students will tell you, the fun really starts when you learn to dance for weddings, parties, and all social events!” says Kubik, a longtime and highly popular dance instructor. Her classes cover nightclub, ballroom, country, Latin, swing, salsa, line, pop and all other social dances for beginners or advanced dancers. Kubik is known for breaking dances down so they’re easy to learn, and she gives students time to learn so they can look good and feel comfortable dancing to all styles of music.

Fun Line Dancing (course #7200001-2880) is a class for everyone. Meeting from 12:45 to 1:55 pm, the class is popular, fun, and great exercise … and no partner is needed! Students will learn “Zorba” and “Saturday Night Fever,” plus perhaps one more depending on how fast the group catches on.

You Gotta Bachata! Beginning (course #7200005-2881) is a dance pattern that reinvents itself to fit the times … students are often surprised to hear that the basic pattern is the “original two-step.” Meeting from 2 to 3:10 pm, this dance will be practiced with many styles of music, and it looks like a different dance with each style. The main pattern is an easy step that goes with everything. This dance is a must-have dance for parties and social events.

Oh So Hot Salsa – Intermediate (course #7200019-2893) meets from 4:30 to 5:40 pm. For students who know the salsa basics, Faythe will be adding more turns and moves. The salsa rhythm/timing works with many styles of music, so students can use this dance on a regular basis.

Beautiful Waltz Additions – Intermediate (course ## 7200018-2890) meets from 5:45 to 6:55 pm. Waltz is romantic, so those with beginner skills always want to add more variations to this dance! (You’ll need to know your basics to do this class.) Faythe will cover “flowing” variations like “Pass Off” and “Pass Off Exchange,” which can also be converted to Rock Sway. Waltz is danced to big band, country, and contemporary music.

Wonderful Rock Sway – Beginning (course #7200002-2892) meets from 7 to 8:10 pm. Rock Sway is perfect for slow, romantic songs, and it’s also great for upbeat tunes that have a slow beat! Faythe has students moving, twirling, and swaying in no time. This dance makes people look and feel good fast, and it’s must for all social events.

In case of bad weather, call Faythe at 319-232-7594 to get messages (she travels from Waterloo to Marshalltown). Students should bring and change into a clean pair of shoes
for dancing; this saves the floor.

Registration for the fall dance classes can be completed online at IowaValley.com. Cost of each class is $68/person. All classes meet at the Iowa Valley Continuing Education Conference Center (Dejardin Hall, room 808) at 3702 S. Center St. in Marshalltown. Questions can be directed to Faythe Kubik at 319-232-7594.
