Two Photography classes begin Feb. 4 & 5!

Local photographer and MHS art instructor Wade Judge is offering two Photography classes beginning Feb. 4 and Feb. 5. Beginning Photography is for those who own a digital camera but have no idea how to operate it, and Introduction to Composition & Photography is for those who want to expand their basic photo skills plus gain some experience with Photoshop and Lightroom.

Beginning Photography (course ID #4292) will be held on six Tuesdays, from Feb. 4 to Mar. 10, from 6 to 9 pm at the Marshalltown High School Art Room (room 174). Participants will practice basic skills like how to hold the camera and then get familiar with how each one’s individual camera works. This class is set up much with lots of one-to-one interaction to help those who don’t know where to begin. You will be amazed at the photos you create!

Introduction to Composition & Photography (course ID #4281) will meet for six Wednesdays from 6 to 9 pm, also at the MHS Art Room (174). This course is for those looking for help running a digital camera outside of auto mode as well as photographers who are you comfortable with a camera and just want a little help improving the quality and composition of their photos. The class will be structured around still photography with digital cameras, but those wanting to work with film photography are welcome as well. The instructor will cover camera settings and elements and principles; exposure and rules of composition, then fine-tuning for individual students’ needs. Participants will work with Photoshop and Lightroom for editing and will leave with one 13×19 or two different 9.5×13 high quality prints on photo paper. You’ll have the camera working FOR you in no time!

Instructor Wade Judge grew up in Le Grand and says the visual arts have been an important part of him for as long as he can remember. “It was this love and drive that led me to a career as a high school art teacher,” Wade explains. “Upon graduating from the University of Northern Iowa (Go Panthers!), life found me down in Yuma, Arizona for the next seven years as ceramics teacher. In 2012 I decided that I missed family and the four seasons too much, so I migrated back to Iowa and Marshalltown and am one of three full-time art teachers at Marshalltown High School.”

Registrations and payment are required before the start of each class and can be completed online at https://iavalley.augusoft.net/. Questions can be directed to Iowa Valley Continuing Education by calling 1-800-284-4823.
