You will review the role of the phlebotomy technician in preparation for the National Healthcareer Association Certified Phlebotomy Technician exam. Topics covered will be: Phlebotomy as a Profession, anatomy and physiology (An Overview), hemostasis, site selection, venipuncture, complication associated with phlebotomy, factors to consider prior to performing the procedure, quality assurance and specimen handling, analytical errors, routine venipuncture, failure to obtain blood, special venipuncture, special specimen handling, dermal punctures (microcapillary collection), test tubes, additives, and tests, clinical laboratory sections, safety, latex sensitivity, and legal considerations. Registration deadline is June 11, 2019.
