DESCRIPTION:Learn about coaching and meet the Iowa requirements for coaching authorization. You will integrate critical concepts from human development\, anatomy/physiology\, and physical education with coaching philosophy and techniques\, care and prevention of athletic injuries\, and the ethics and legal aspects of coaching. \n\nRequired Concussion Training is via the Iowa High School Athletic Association at Concussion Online Training. Log onto the site\, click on the Free Sports Concussion Course\, follow the directions\, complete the course\, print your certificate\, and submit it to your instructor.\nAdditional topics: Structure & Function of the Human Body\, Human Growth & Development\, Techniques and Theory\, Professional Ethics and Legal Issues\, Prevention & Care of Athletic Injuries\, and Medical & Safety Problems.\n\nThis certification requires a minimum of 55 contact hours of coursework. Iowa requires an application fee ($85) and a background check fee ($75); fingerprinting is included with the submission of state forms. These fees may be paid online with a credit card ($3 service fee). Applicants under age 20 must upload a copy of their high school diploma (required transcript) to the online application for coaching authorization. As of April 23\, 2017\, the BOEE requires applications to document current completion of a hands-on (not online) CPR training (see AHA HeartSaver CPR/AED/First Aid on page 11). CPR training through the following organizations will also be accepted: American Heart Association\, American Red Cross\, American Safety & Health Institute (ASHI)\, National Safety Council (NSC)\, or Medic First Aid. SUMMARY:Meat Cutting Essentials - Hybrid
DESCRIPTION:This intensive course provides hands-on training in the essential techniques required to transform primal cuts into marketable retail portions. Participants will learn the art of breaking down beef\, pork\, lamb\, and other meats\, mastering the precise cuts necessary to yield subprimal and retail cuts. Gain expertise in trimming and portioning techniques\, ensuring consistent quality and maximizing yield. Develop proficiency in packaging and presentation\, understanding the importance of maintaining freshness and visual appeal for customers. This course emphasizes safety\, efficiency\, and the artistry of butchery\, preparing you for a rewarding career in the meat industry. \nThis course utilizes a hybrid learning model\, delivering core curriculum content – including lessons\, assignments\, required readings\, and instructional videos – through an online platform.  Students then participate in mandatory\, in-person lab sessions at a local partnering meat locker.  These sessions provide critical hands-on practice\, direct observation of skills\, and practical testing to ensure competency in the subject matter.
