Advanced Nurse Aide (Phase 2) program begins Mar. 6

For the first time in several years, Iowa Valley Continuing Education is offering an Advanced Nurse Aide (Phase 2) career training program in Marshalltown. The training begins with a mandatory orientation course on Friday, Mar. 6, from 9 to 11 am. The remainder of the coursework is on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 am to noon from Mar. 16 to Apr. 24, including 30 hours of clinical time in a local acute care facility in April.

“We’re excited to be able to offer this Advanced Nurse Aide career training locally,” said Robin Carmichael, IVCE Health Education Coordinator. “This training has been requested by acute care facilities in this area, and they will provide the clinical sites for our students toward the end of the program. UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown and the Iowa Veterans Home are looking forward to working with our students. The Advanced Nurse Aide is a valuable career step for certified nurse aides, particularly those who want to take on more complicated duties and perhaps even transition at some point into Medical Assisting or Nursing.”

The course is being taught by Roxanne Wolken, RN. Students must register and pay for the $25 IVCE Background Check (course ID #4357) by Mar. 1. Prior to the mandatory orientation on Mar. 6, students must also complete the free online Dependent Adult & Child Abuse for Mandatory Reporters course and bring a certificate of completion to the Mar. 6 orientation. Additional requirements and complete registration information are available on the IVCE website at Questions can be directed to IVCE by calling 641-752-4645.
