Iowa Valley Intermediary Externship Program

Summer Educator Externship Program General Information

Opportunities to immerse yourself in the world of work – outside the classroom – will be available for selected participants this summer through the Iowa Valley Intermediary Program Summer Educator Externship Program. After gaining a deeper understanding of specific career fields and necessary skills, educator externs can take their experience back to the classroom to share with the future workforce.

What does the program involve?

The program is for educators and involves a 40-hour experience at a business.  Participants will record skills observed on the job with a daily journal and develop curriculum recommendations, timelines for possible implementation and lesson plans after the externship.

Who is eligible?

Any teacher, counselor or administrator who completes the application procedure and is selected through a competitive process becomes eligible to participate in the summer externship program.

How will externs be selected?

A committee, comprised of representatives from business and IVCCD, will review all of the applications. One general education and one special education educator will be selected considering previous participation and quality of the application.

Selection and Compensation

The selected educators to participate will be notified of their acceptance.

Upon selection to participate, the extern will meet with IVCCD representatives to review additional paperwork.  The extern will receive a maximum of $900 for (40) hours of participation and submission of daily journal, lesson plans, and evaluation forms.
