Application Workshop – Now that you have a great resume, you can apply for that job you want! We can help if it is a paper or online application. Also, learn about common questions that appear on applications and the appropriate ways of answering them.
Bring Your A-Game to Work – Understand the long-term benefits of work ethic and set a solid foundation for personal and professional success.
Conduct a Job Search – Practice using the strategies that are most effective at locating job opportunities.
Create a Great Resume – Get helpful tips on writing resumes and cover letters, plus have time to create your own perfect resume to take home.
Develop a Career Plan – Career exploration.
Digital Literacy Basic – Get acquainted with the computer, mouse, keyboard, and other important resources.
Discover your Resources – Reduce barriers to employment by learning about services offered at local community action agencies.
EMAIL/ONLINE – Setup your own email address and learn how to use it. Learn how to navigate online applications. Must have basic computer skills or have taken Digital Literacy Basic for this workshop.
Essential Tools for Job Seekers – Covers how to get a job in a tough economy. Comprehensive overview of the skills required to get and keep a job. Dig into labor market information, take an interest test, and learn what IowaWORKS Iowa Valley can do to assist you in your job searching. Develop a plan to get you from unemployed/under-employed to employed. (Also available in Spanish once each month. También disponible en Español una vez al mes.)
Excellence in Customer Service – Learn basic business writing, phone etiquette, problem solving, decision making, listening skills, dealing with difficult people, asking effective questions, and enhancing your self-esteem (24-hour workshop held over four consecutive days, every other month).
Financial Fitness – Take control of your money. Learn more about budgeting, savings, and building credit.
Getting Prepared to Job Search – Skills assessments, job application processes, resumes, cover letters, follow up/thank you notes. Interviewing: answering difficult questions. Learn job retention and success skills. Deal with background checks.
Interview and Negotiate – Mock interviews.
Limelight Leadership Academy – For ages 14-24, this workshop is packed with motivation, determination, and ways to start carving the path to your future. Find your passion and what drives you. You will learn how to stand above the rest with your leadership skills while you build lifelong friendships (Offered once a year in June; click here for details and registration information.)
Maintain a Positive Attitude – Implement strategies to maintain a positive perspective while managing dramatic changes, including the loss of a job.
Microsoft Word Basic – Learn the basics in Microsoft Word for creating documents, formatting for printing, and saving documents.
Microsoft Excel Basic – Learn how to create Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, use basic formulas, sort, format, and print.
National Career Readiness Certificate/NCRC – Obtain a nationally/state recognized applied skills certificate based on three assessments: Reading for Information, Locating Information, and Applied Mathematics.
Orientation to Partner Services – This is an informational session for programs on High School Equivalency Diplomas, English as a Second Language, Vocational Rehabilitation services, and WIOA Title I services.
Research Industry Trends – Labor market information.
Workin’ It Out – Solve problems in the workplace, understand employers’ unspoken rules and how our beliefs/thoughts/feelings can affect the problems we have. (Offered every other month.)
