Short-Term Healthcare Training Classes in March
People looking to get their start in healthcare have two new opportunities in March. Due to high demand in these career fields, Iowa Valley Business and Community Solutions (BCS) has added Pharmacy Tech and Medical Billing and Coding classes, beginning March 6th.
Medical Billing and Coding is a class that will prepare individuals to work through insurance claims. This 80-hour class will prepare the student for a position in a hospital, doctor’s office, or medical clinic. This course is eligible for financial aid, which could cover the class cost and all associated fees.
The Pharmacy Technician class will prepare students to work in a pharmacy setting, whether at a hospital, pharmacy, or clinic. This course is 50 hours of instruction and is also eligible for financial aid.
“We are so excited to be able to offer these courses and meet the business need,” said Julie Thomas, Community and Workforce Education Coordinator. “Our students will have the opportunity to prepare for in-demand careers, and will be able to enter the workforce almost immediately after certification.”
These courses are ideal for a graduating high school student who wants to explore a career in healthcare, or someone looking to make a career shift and join the medical field. Both of these courses are offered twice a year in Marshalltown.
The courses will prepare the student for the respective national certification exams. A high school diploma or HSED is required to sit for the exams. Both classes offer an unpaid externship, which is an opportunity to gain real-world experience in a business setting.
