BCS to Offer EMT and Advanced EMT Courses in Grinnell
Iowa Valley Business and Community Solutions is pleased to announce upcoming Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) courses, set to begin on September 8, 2025. These vital training programs will be held at the Iowa Valley Grinnell campus, located at 123 6th Avenue West in Grinnell, IA.
The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course provides foundational training for individuals aspiring to enter the emergency medical services field. Students will engage in over 140 hours of comprehensive classroom instruction and 48 hours of practical clinical/field experience. This program equips participants with the essential skills to provide out-of-hospital emergency medical care and safe patient transportation for critical and emergent situations, operating within a structured EMS system under medical oversight. The required textbook is included in the course.
For those looking to provide immediate, life-saving assistance without patient transport, the Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) course is an excellent starting point. This program offers a minimum of 60 hours of classroom and home study/lab hours, focusing on stabilizing patients in emergencies. EMRs function as a crucial part of the EMS response system, performing basic interventions with typical ambulance equipment to stabilize patients while awaiting higher-level medical personnel. Upon successful completion, students will be eligible to take the National Registry Emergency Responder certification test. Prerequisites include being 17 years of age with a valid driver’s license, the ability to read and write English, and current CPR Healthcare Provider or Professional Rescuer certification.
