Local Experts to Lead Panel on Succession Planning for Non-Profits in Marshalltown
Iowa Valley Business and Community Solutions (BCS) and Iowa Workforce Development are extending a crucial invitation to non-profit leaders and board members for the next session of their free series, “Navigating Tomorrow: Your Future-Ready Succession Plan.” The session, titled “Succession Planning for Non-Profits,” is scheduled for Thursday, October 23, 2025, and will focus on the unique challenges and opportunities within the non-profit sector.
Non-profit organizations are the backbone of community support, but their reliance on volunteer boards, funding consistency, and mission continuity make leadership transition particularly complex. This timely session is designed to address those complexities head-on, offering strategies to ensure organizational health and sustained community impact.
“The success of our local non-profits is essential to the quality of life in Marshalltown,” says Jacque Goodman, Vice President of Iowa Valley Business and Community Solutions. “Succession planning for these organizations goes beyond executive replacement; it’s about preserving the mission itself. This expert panel brings together the perfect mix of development, legal, and operational experience to guide these discussions.”
The complimentary lunch and learn will feature an experienced panel of local and regional leaders who will share their insights on board development, legal considerations, and preparing organizations for leadership transitions:
• Brooke Prouty, Main Street Iowa
• Lynne Carroll, Big Brothers/Big Sisters
• Linda Halvelka, Child, Adolescent, and Parent Support
• Sean Heitmann, Attorney at Law
• Nate McCormick, Emerson
“We recognize that non-profit leaders often operate with limited resources,” adds Michelle Roseburrough, Business Engagement Consultant at Iowa Workforce Development. “By offering this workshop for free, complete with lunch, we are removing barriers and making sure this critical planning information is accessible to those who need it most.”
The session will empower attendees to focus on strategies for a smooth handover of institutional knowledge, board succession, and maintain strategic momentum during periods of change.
The “Succession Planning for Non-Profits” session is free to attend, and a complimentary lunch will be provided. Advance registration is required to ensure adequate planning.
