Nurse Aide Skills Competency Exam

Successful completion of this exam meets one of the state requirements for person seeking employment as a nurse aide in a long-term care facility in Iowa. A score of 70% or higher is considered passing. Students must show photo ID prior to testing and have a watch with a second hand. Students are encouraged to wear their uniform. Each student will need to know their specific 1-hour exam time and arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the exam time.

Lumens Account Check:

  • First, ensure you have a student account in Lumens. You likely created this when you registered for your CNA class. If you’re unsure or haven’t done this yet, please register for a student account using the “Register Now” button on this page. (Make sure the name you use on your Lumens account matches your ID.) 

You will need to complete a computer-based test AND an in-person skills exam. These exams can be taken in any order you choose.
