BCS Expands Healthcare Apprenticeship Offerings with New Practical Nursing Program
Iowa Valley Business and Community Solutions (BCS) is excited to announce the addition of a Practical Nursing (PN) Apprenticeship to its growing portfolio of healthcare apprenticeship programs. This new one-year program offers a unique pathway for individuals to gain valuable skills and experience while earning a paycheck in the high-demand healthcare field.
The Practical Nursing Apprenticeship provides participants with a comprehensive blend of on-the-job training and structured education. Apprentices will work alongside experienced healthcare professionals, gaining hands-on experience in essential patient care tasks. This includes learning to accurately measure, document, and evaluate patients’ vital signs such as height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.
Furthermore, the program emphasizes the development of critical observation and assessment skills. Apprentices will learn to observe and assess patients, document and report any changes in their conditions, including adverse reactions to medication or treatment, and understand when and how to take necessary action.
A key component of the apprenticeship is the integration of participants into a collaborative healthcare team. Apprentices will work closely with Registered Nurses (RNs) and other healthcare team members to assess patient needs, contribute to the planning and modification of care, and implement interventions under supervision.
