Easy Tech Skills for Everyone: A New, Relaxed Way to Learn
MARSHALLTOWN, IA — Building confidence with modern technology doesn’t have to be expensive or intimidating. Iowa Valley Business and Community Solutions (BCS) is launching the Digital Essentials Series, a four-session program designed for community members of all ages to master everyday digital tools in a relaxed, supportive setting.
At just $74 for the entire series, less than $20 per session, participants receive hands-on instruction in a friendly, “no experience required” environment. Each 45-minute workshop features easy explanations and guided practice using your own devices.
The Series Schedule
Sessions meet Thursdays at noon in Room 610 at Iowa Valley BCS (or via Zoom):
- Feb. 5 | Everyday AI Made Simple: Discover what artificial intelligence really is and how it already helps in daily life—from voice assistants to smart recommendations. Participants will watch a live demo and try a free AI tool themselves to complete fun, practical tasks like writing a thank-you note or planning simple meals.
- Feb. 12 | Get Creative with Free Design Tools: Learn how to use free, beginner-friendly design tools to create eye-catching graphics for personal use, events, or social sharing. Participants will create and save their own graphic using templates, colors, and text.
- Feb. 19 | Social Media for Connection: Explore popular social media platforms and learn how to create positive, engaging posts. Participants will draft a friendly message—such as an event invite or community update—and receive helpful feedback while learning tips for respectful online sharing.
- Feb. 26 | Smartphone Tips Everyone Can Use: Discover simple phone settings and shortcuts that make everyday life easier and safer. Participants will learn how to manage notifications, set emergency contacts, find photos faster, and speed up typing with shortcuts.
The series will meet on Thursdays from Feb. 5 through Feb. 26, with each session running from 12:00 to 12:45 pm. Classes are held at Iowa Valley Business and Community Solutions in Marshalltown (Room 610), though a virtual option via Zoom is also available for those who prefer to join from home.
