Phlebotomy Technician Career Certificate Program begins May 24
Iowa Valley Continuing Education will offer a Phlebotomy Technician Career Certificate Program beginning May 24. This 90-hour course prepares professionals to collect blood specimens from clients for laboratory analysis. The course meets at IVCE in Marshalltown on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
People interested in becoming Phlebotomists should have a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Phlebotomy Technicians are supervised by medical technologists or laboratory managers, throughout the health care system – hospitals, medical centers, group practices, HMOs, public health facilities, veteran hospitals, insurance carriers, and other healthcare settings. The demand for Phlebotomy Technicians has increased substantially with the overall complexity of health care services.
Students will study all aspects of blood collection and develop comprehensive skills to perform venipunctures completely and safely. Classroom work includes terminology, anatomy, and physiology; blood collection procedures; specimen hands-on practice; and clinical training in skills and techniques to perform puncture methods.
When you successfully complete a Phlebotomy Technician training program, are 18 years of age, and have a HS diploma or equivalent you can qualify to take the NHA (National Healthcareer Association) Phlebotomy Certification Exam.
