Six Adult High School Graduates Honored

MARSHALLTOWN – Six graduates were recognized at the adult high school equivalency (HSED) graduation ceremony in Dejardin Hall on the Iowa Valley Business and Community Solutions campus on Tuesday, June 20. The graduates received letters of congratulations presented by Patty Mendoza, Iowa Valley’s Director of Adult Literacy Programs, and a short commentary was read by instructor Kathy Siebring regarding each graduate’s future plans.

Students that received a diploma during the ceremony included Ofelia Garcia Tovar, Brianna Callahan, Keith Davidson, Andrea DeVilder, John Patterson Jr., and Randi Shaw.

Each graduate received a certificate symbolizing their dedication to lifelong learning. All 24 graduates (not just the 6 that attended the ceremony), will receive an $400 New Opportunities Scholarship for credit classes at Marshalltown Community College, Ellsworth Community College, or Iowa Valley Grinnell.

Each year, Iowa Valley Business and Community Solutions (BCS) presents a Director’s Scholarship award to the student who achieves the highest score on the high school equivalency tests. The June graduating class Valedictorian was Michael Torche, who may use the Director’s Scholarship to cover full tuition and fees for one year at one of the schools in the Iowa Valley Community College District.
