What is an EMT?
EMTs are the frontline responders, providing crucial care to injured or ill individuals and transporting them to medical facilities. They handle a wide range of emergencies, from car accidents and heart attacks to allergic reactions and childbirth.
Take charge in an emergency:
- Assess the situation and prioritize patients based on their needs.
- Initiate medical treatment according to your training.
- Call for additional assistance when necessary.
What skills do EMTs possess?
EMTs are trained to provide Basic Life Support (BLS), which equips them to:
- Perform CPR and use Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs).
- Apply bandages to wounds.
- Stabilize head, neck, and broken bone injuries.
- Resuscitate drowning victims.
- Administer oxygen therapy.
- Assist in emergency childbirth.
- Assess a variety of health emergencies.
- Administer specific medications like Narcan, epinephrine, glucose, and albuterol.
BLS care is often enough to stabilize patients until they reach the hospital for further treatment.
