This course is a combined lecture/online course which has been developed by the United States Nation Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The course follows the most current National Emergency Medical Services Education Standards for the Emergency Medical Responder ). This course provides the student an opportunity to supply cognitive knowledge and psychomotor skills in the classroom. The course is graded on a pass/fail basis. Instruction is related to patient assessment in areas of basic life support, cardiac arrest, trauma, and medical emergencies.
The course consists of a minimum of 60 hours of classroom and home study/lab hours. Upon successful completion of the course students will be eligible to take the National Registry psychomotor and cognitive certification exam at the Emergency Medical Responder level.
Students will be responsible for the cost of NREMT testing, and the IDPH application and background check fee.
Prerequisite:
• Must be 17 years of age at time of enrollment and possess a valid driver’s license.
• Must be able to read and write English.
• Current CPR Healthcare Provider (American Heart Association) or Professional Rescuer (American Red Cross) level is required prior to starting class.
