Emergency Medical Technician – Tama

Emergency Medical Technicians provide out-of-hospital emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical services (EMS) system. EMTs have the basic knowledge and skills necessary to stabilize and safely transport patients ranging from non-emergency and routine medical transports to life-threatening emergencies. Emergency Medical Technicians are part of a comprehensive EMS response system, under medical oversight. Emergency Medical Technicians perform interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance. This class is 140+ hours of classroom instruction with online assessments and course work and 48+ hours of clinical/field experience.  Students will be responsible for the cost of an IDPH and college background checks (which includes immunization, CPR card, driver’s license, and transcript verification), any needed immunizations, NREMT written testing, and the IDPH application fee.  Textbook is included.

Prerequisite: 
• Must be 17 years of age at the time of enrollment and possess a valid driver’s license.
• Must be able to read and write English.
• Current CPR Healthcare Provider (American Heart Association) or Professional Rescuer (American Red Cross) level is required prior to starting class.
• Students will need a copy of their immunization records.
